Orthopaedics
As a key constituent of equine medicine, orthopaedics plays an important role at the Pferdeklinik Leichlingen. We employ eight veterinarians specialising in orthopaedic treatments. Patients are examined both inside and outside the building, which is designed to meet orthopaedic requirements.
Outdoors, the orthopaedic patient is examined in motion. This happens on a range of surfaces such as, for example, two types of rough paved surfaces. These facilitate sure-footed movement in a straight line and on a hard circle at walk and trot. Surrounded by a hedge, the hard circle made from a concrete and chippings mix gives the horse great stability on firm ground. The outdoor area measuring 20 x 40 metres enables us to assess the horse on soft ground on the lunge as well as under the rider. Thus, the right kind of ground conditions can always be selected for the various orthopaedic issues.
